“Under the heavy shadow of censorship, rent and corruption, the cinema house/Mostafa Azizi”

In Iran, during the month of Shahrivar, all eyes turn towards the cinema. This is because on the 21st of Shahrivar, the 100th anniversary of the entry of cinematography into Iran, is celebrated as “National Cinema Day.” It is also because one of the major events in Iranian cinema, the “Cinema House Celebration,” is held on one of the days of Shahrivar, and this year it was held on the 8th of Shahrivar. In designing this celebration, inspiration was drawn from the annual “Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences” award, commonly known as the Oscars, where members of different guilds vote for their colleagues, unlike the Fajr award, which is modeled after European film festivals.
