Every year, nearly eighteen million Iranian students enter school; eighteen million students who are supposed to shape the future of Iran. According to all experts, understanding laws, following regulations, and implementing civil rights should be taught from elementary and middle school, but unfortunately, in the past forty years and even before that, the least discussed and taught topic has been civil and human rights, laws, and awareness of human rights for students in Iran. On the other hand, student rights have not been addressed in the Iranian legal system, which has led to tragic and horrifying incidents for them. Just a brief look at the non-practical teachings to students in Iran, which are mostly based on government ideology, shows that they have caused the most harm to students. This is while if instead of teaching these non-practical subjects, we taught students about human rights and laws, our country would not be facing this unfortunate situation.

On the other hand, many of our students suffer from non-standard schools. The tragic incident of the Islamic Revolution School in Shin Abad Piranshahr is a clear example of this non-standard situation, which resulted in the death of two students named Siran Yeganeh and Saria Rasoulzadeh and severe burns for 26 young female students who, despite more than six years passing, are still on the road to recovery from Shin Abad to Tehran. All the suffering of the students in Shin Abad is a result of irresponsibility and negligence of government officials in the Ministry of Education. Currently, more than forty percent of schools in the country are non-standard, and there is a fear of a similar incident happening again. The case of the innocent burned girls of Shin Abad is a bitter story of gender inequality in Iran, more than ever before. Even the weak and incomplete insurance provided for Iranian students during the Shin Abad school incident shows that there is gender

Furthermore, the situation of dealing with students in schools is another tragic issue; from physical abuse to misbehavior, from sexual abuse to other problems, it has caused misery for Iranian students. The bitter story of Saeed Toosi, a student who was sexually assaulted by his Quran teacher during this year’s summer break in a mosque, is just one example of the lack of student rights in Iran, which should be considered a painful tragedy.

On the other hand, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which should be a part of students’ rights, is not only not taught in our schools, but is also foreign to them. Out of eighteen million Iranian students, perhaps only a fraction of a percent are aware of and familiar with this covenant, which is a very frightening situation. Joy and laughter should be considered the right of Iranian students, but unfortunately, it has been replaced by violence and mistreatment. The rights of students are violated from two sides, parents and the Ministry of Education; in such a way that parents only encourage and pressure their students to achieve high grades, neglecting other human aspects, and on the other hand, the Ministry of Education, with an outdated system based on religious teachings, pushes them towards a specific direction that has had very negative consequences. The reality is that the output of the Ministry of Education and parents towards Iranian students is less within the framework of students’ rights, and this will gradually lead
