Recession in Balochistan’s handicraft industry due to the spread of Corona/Turan transportation.

It can be boldly stated that Sistan and Baluchestan province has been one of the most deprived and forgotten regions of Iran in the past few decades. In support of this claim, recent remarks by Ali Yarmohammadi, the representative of Zahedan, can be mentioned, who stated: “About 74% of the people in Sistan and Baluchestan province are below the poverty line and have food insecurity, and they do not have a stable job. They mostly work on a daily basis and are paid daily wages.”
One of the common occupations among the people of this region is handicrafts, which are prevalent and indigenous in this area, including needlework and mat weaving, Baluchi embroidery, pottery, basket weaving, carpet weaving, and wood carving, among others. It is worth mentioning that a considerable number of women and girls, who are sometimes the head of the household, make a living through these local industries, which are a valuable cultural heritage.
