If only you were alive – a poem by Reza Ekvanian

If you were alive, you would see that Shalamcheh has been left in your place and the revolution has come.

Give people water and bow their heads on Azadi street.

I wish you were alive, on Fridays we used to take our mother to the mountains and smell the scent.

The cemetery does not give, when it sees a human, it turns the street red. باران تیر در باران تیرِ تیرماه

In the rain, in the rain, the month of Tir in the rain. In the rain, the month of Tir in the rain.

Khordad! You would hold my hand and we would go to school to learn the alphabet, mother in black. می‌کردم

I wish I could hold the sun for you to turn red. ن

Take a look at the place where every day shines on the old ground. زه مرده است

It burns your grave and your mother who has just died.

Your decaying bones have decayed. I wish you were alive, I would see you. ت را بی آنکه دست بر ماشه بری!

Do not leave without saying goodbye! Because you are leaving your mother without saying goodbye!

He waits for his son when he steps out onto the street.
