The Islamic Republic of Iran, from its inception, has ruthlessly dealt with its opponents and has not hesitated to use various methods to murder many of them. In the early days of the revolution in 1979, the Islamic Revolutionary Courts were established under the orders of Ayatollah Khomeini and were led by Sadegh Khalkhali. Many people were executed under the rulings of these courts. These massacres were carried out officially under the guise of a trial, but in reality, they were extrajudicial killings by the government. In addition, in 1988, the mass execution of political prisoners took place without any trials or verdicts, which is considered a form of forced disappearance. Alongside this, extrajudicial killings also took place outside of Iran, with the peak being the assassination of Kurdish leader Abdolrahman Ghasemloo in 1989.
