Old age is difficult in Iran/Azam Bahrami

It is likely that many young people born after the 1960s, when they see the widespread advertisements about having children, have a half-glance at their parents. Why is it that systems such as insurance, social services, retirement, or facilities that are usually considered for people over the age of 65 in many developed countries do not exist for their parents? Or, for example, the conditions of well-being, mental peace, stability, and economic security that a person should expect from social institutions after working for more than half of their life, will not be included for their parents? This reality puts a thought in front of all young and middle-aged people in Iran, how will we spend our elderly years!
Statistics of the elderly
According to the statistics of the United Nations and the World Health Organization, it is estimated that by 2030, the elderly population of the world will increase from nearly 9% to over 16%. However, in Iran, this number will grow to 17.5%. The population of Iran has quadrupled from 1335 to 1395, while the elderly population has increased six-fold in the same period. The number of elderly people in urban areas has increased nine-fold, and in rural areas, it has doubled. In the last 50 years, the number of elderly women has grown much more than the male population. This can be attributed to the increase in life expectancy, physical health, and the decrease in mortality factors such as road accidents, war, workplace accidents, and the use of tobacco and alcohol among women in the population.

According to the Ministry of Labor, 90% of workers with temporary contracts work for one to three months. This means that not only will these individuals not have retirement and its benefits, but they also have no job security or economic stability.
Another group of occupations, such as agriculture and livestock farming, not only do not have access to necessary insurance and healthcare services, but also have no hope for a steady income in old age or after retirement. Among climate migrants who sleep in their cars or on the streets in major cities, or construction workers who are paid by the day, people over 50 and

While the country’s pension fund statistics do not cover a large portion of retirees, it also does not provide adequate financial support for its members. According to the Technical Director of the National Pension Fund, 17% of pensioners are mandatory pensioners, while the rest are retirees from various government agencies. The majority of pensioners are retired teachers and education personnel from the Ministry of Education.
However, what is noteworthy in this population is that 26.56% are retirees from Tehran. About 60% of them are retired teachers and education personnel, and approximately 500,000 of these retirees have a doctorate or higher education. As a result, there is geographical and
