Achieving peace and security, and a life full of tranquility under the shadow of these two important pillars, have been among the first demands of humanity from the beginning of history until now, and various actions have been taken in different eras to achieve this noble goal. Achieving peace is always faced with various challenges, and one of its fundamental challenges is the different meanings and concepts in different periods. In today’s world, peace is often seen as the observance of principles such as sovereignty, equality of rights, respect for the sovereignty and representatives of countries, respect for the territorial integrity of countries, non-interference in internal affairs, and resolution of conflicts through peaceful means. However, with the world moving towards globalization and the emergence of different threats compared to the past, this definition of peace and security has gradually changed and other manifestations have emerged.

Disarmament and arms control.
One of the ways that the United Nations is working towards peace and security is by controlling and monitoring the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and disarmament of hostile and threatening countries to global security. Disarmament holds a significant position in the UN’s efforts to establish peace and development in a safer world. The UN, through its institutions responsible for disarmament issues and with the support of international bodies and organizations responsible for negotiations in this field, works to establish criteria and strengthen multilateral principles for disarmament. Countries have the necessary tools through the UN to build trust and confidence in each other and to ensure compliance with agreements.
Multilateral negotiations, with the support of the UN, such as the Conference on Disarmament, have led to the conclusion of a wide range of agreements, including the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, and agreements to establish nuclear-weapon-free zones. In addition, institutions have been established to help control weapons

One of the great achievements of the United Nations is the creation of a comprehensive set of human rights laws that all nations can participate in and adhere to. The United Nations has also established effective mechanisms to protect human rights for the benefit of people around the world and strives to promote and uphold the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The United Nations is making remarkable efforts to promote human rights in various ways. The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights raises concerns and issues with governments, responds to human rights violations, and takes action to prevent them.
The Secretary-General and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights confidentially discuss important human rights issues, including treatment of prisoners and reduction of death penalties, with governments.
Under some United Nations human rights treaties, individuals can file complaints against governments for violating their rights, subject to certain conditions, including exhausting all domestic remedies.
