University Street – A poem by Fatemeh Akhtari

ی

Where should I start the story from? From the wounded night.

“University Avenue” or further ahead – “Lala… Lala… Quiet!” Night. ه

Dark arrows inside “wing” or back, two handles بردار تا بتوانم بیرون بروم”

Locked – “I have locked the door to your room, take the key so I can go out.”

“It’s not coming here!” Standing in front of the Sepah band.

“Farther back, even farther back than the flood, before your mouth was hit.” ی

“Yes!” Before a pair of bloody and wet eyes, before a signature. گناهانت را بنویس”

Sin Sheets – “Close your eyes and in your mind, write down your sins.”

“Count the garden’s goats!” A few white sheep were eaten.

The black wolves were driven away from the herd in the bed.

To your little body – “Hush… lullaby… sweet dreams!”
“Be awake with the first morning light, sleep is for the shelterless person.”

My mother tried to sing a lullaby in my ear and… I fell asleep! من تنها ماندم

I was full of fear and doubt, the city went away and I was left alone. این اتفاقات از کجا آمدند

Where did the story begin? Where did all these events come from?

As I walked down the alley, someone suddenly attacked me… I ran away!

I met you unexpectedly, in every way, to you who… نگذارم

You were tired and bloody, but with you I won’t give up on this story. چشمای تو

I went with you until the end of the night, with your two eyes.

“Locking hands until the end of the month! Until getting drunk.”

“Drink, far from the dead world, spinning, getting kicked and punched.” ترین

Spinning, tired on the steps of the university, my biggest wish. ان

“And it was unattainable, funny and ridiculous, the eyes.”

You were behind the window, and you said to me: nothing. طرف من نگاه می کردند

Don’t worry! Shadows were wandering in the alley, looking at me.

They sprinkled the dust of the dead on my night, where did they start my story? My mother.

It was time for the vaccine, I was asleep.
