According to reports from the World Health Organization, millions of people lose their lives every year due to air pollution in different parts of the world. This problem, which has no cause other than poor management and neglect of international conventions and agreements in this area, requires a global plan to reduce fossil fuel consumption, along with educating people on the use of public transportation and considering the distance factor between residential and industrial areas as the first steps.
It can be said that the Earth is warming and the level of greenhouse gases has increased; however, with careful and committed planning, we can still prevent the continuation of this trend. Employing experts in every field and utilizing new technology and past experiences can help with this matter.
Unfortunately, in our country, consumerism, mismanagement, corruption, and prioritizing personal interests over public and long-term interests have prevented any significant steps from being taken to protect the environment. Cooperation between the people and the government is essential for preserving the environment of our country. For this, the government must take the first step in order to instill a sense of environmental friendliness in Iranians.
Helping to improve public awareness while also increasing the quality and quantity of public transportation and utilizing high-quality and globally standardized fuels, and then replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy, are the first steps towards escaping the deadly consequences of air pollution.
One of the air pollutants, especially in our country, is the transmission of parasites to neutralize the waves of specific satellite TV networks. These waves, along with suspended particles and other air pollutants, have caused a cancer tsunami; because these waves disrupt the natural state of air molecules.
Citizens also have responsibilities in protecting the environment and fighting air pollution. These responsibilities include using public transportation, getting regular vehicle inspections without paying bribes to mechanics, following traffic restrictions and reducing unnecessary urban traffic.
Air pollution in the past weeks in big cities of Iran, especially Tehran, is an example of neglecting global conventions and improper management for the preservation of the country’s environment and citizens’ health. This trend can even spread to smaller cities. Non-standard gasoline distributed throughout the country, non-standard factories and workshops, and lack of control by relevant organizations can lead to the spread of this air pollution tsunami.
The lack of responsibility from the Environmental Organization and other ministries, along with the absence of comprehensive and up-to-date laws, and the irresponsible actions of some citizens on the other hand, are factors that prevent us from preventing this “environmental and human disaster”.
