Experts believe that the marriage of a girl and a boy during childhood or adolescence can have many negative consequences and social damages; because an adolescent who has not yet reached sufficient maturity is not able to take on the responsibility of a life. Cultural poverty, adherence to principles and observance of old and traditional customs by many of these families have caused young girls and boys to be trapped in various problems resulting from early marriage.

According to recent research by UNICEF, 156 million men around the world are living in areas where they were married as children. While this is a significant number, there has been little research done to address the issue of child grooms. UNICEF statistics also show that out of all marriages under the age of 18 in the world, 18% are allocated to boys. However, it should be noted that these numbers may vary greatly in different regions. For example, recent studies in certain areas of India have shown that the percentage of boys getting married before the legal age is higher than that of girls.

In 52 countries around the world, girls under the age of 15 are getting married without their consent and according to the laws. The number for boys in these countries is 23. In 23 countries, the laws allow parents to choose a spouse for their sons under the age of 15 without the child’s consent. This means that if the child disagrees with the chosen spouse after the age of 15, they will lose the ability to make their own decision before that age.

The global community has prioritized raising awareness and preventing the increase in child marriages, while ignoring another part of society, which goes against human rights and children’s rights laws. Just as child marriage has negative effects on girls, there are also measurable consequences for boys. Boys are often forced to drop out of school and take on low-paying jobs to support their new families. This perpetuates the cycle of poverty and leads to early marriages. The global goal is to break this cycle for future generations.

Iran is among the countries where its laws, without a specific definition of childhood age, allow parents to send their sons to the house of fortune before the age of 15! According to Article 1041 of the Civil Code: “The marriage contract of a girl before the age of 13 and a boy before the age of 15, according to the solar calendar, is subject to the consent of the guardian, provided that the court deems it in the best interest.”

Although girls do not welcome such authoritarian and pragmatic marriages due to lack of choice and interest, there are also cases where a teenager under the age of 18 sees marriage as an opportunity to escape from the failures and problems that they face in their family due to economic poverty.

The registration statistics for the year 1394 (2015-2016) show that 314 cases of marriage of boys under the age of 15 and 37,117 cases of marriage of girls under the age of 14 have been registered. Additionally, in the same year, 1 case of divorce of a boy under the age of 15 and 1,249 cases of divorce of a girl under the age of 14 have occurred. It is important to note two things in these statistics. Firstly, these numbers only represent the cases of marriage and divorce that have been officially registered, while many marriages are not registered until the person reaches the legal age or has a child and requires legal documentation. Secondly, in similar surveys, a person may be under the age of 15 at the time of marriage but over the age of 15 at the time of divorce and therefore counted in a different age group. This applies to girls as well. Just as early marriage creates obstacles for

What should be given more attention in marriage is the quality and sustainability of it as a foundation for building a healthy, strong, and vibrant family in order to be able to provide for the quality of family life. The quality of family life is such that the family is able to solve its own problems and family members must have problem-solving skills in order to have more adaptability, which is a prerequisite for cultural and social maturity. The most important consequence of early marriages is the creation of families lacking in quality of life, which leads to early divorce in these families.
