The right to women’s health/Javad Abbasi Toolli

Women in Iran have not only faced discrimination in terms of their legal rights and participation in social activities, but also lack free and timely access to healthcare services and insurance coverage for necessary check-ups and tests to prevent and treat female cancers. Currently, the lack of sufficient education on women’s anatomy and physiological needs on one hand, and the lack of access to free medical services on the other, has led to a widespread prevalence of various cancers and diseases among women in Iran. Sadly, the issue is compounded by the fact that laws regarding insurance coverage for Iranian women are still stuck in committees and commissions, and after decades, there is still no clear legal provision for free and immediate support for women with cancer. For years, no effective measures have been taken in Iran to provide free coverage for women to undergo pap smear tests and breast cancer screenings.
