The book “The Art of Advocacy” is written by Ali Akbar Riazi. This book, which was introduced as a legal book in the Netherlands in 2010, has been translated into Persian by Mohammad Hossein Zahedin Labaf. The writing of this book increases the awareness of lawyers in litigation and the use of global standards in dealing with lawyers, and can be considered among useful and valuable books.

According to the translator, this book undoubtedly sheds light on the sensitivity of choosing a guardian lawyer for law students, as these individuals can greatly fulfill their expectations of an ideal guardian lawyer by reading this book.

Ali Akbar Riazi is the author of the book “The Art of Advocacy” and holds a Bachelor’s degree in English literature, a Master’s degree in linguistics, and a PhD in law. In the 1970s, during the tumultuous period after the signing of the peace treaty between North and South Vietnam in Paris, he served as the head of the legal department of the United Nations International Control and Supervision Commission in Vietnam. Since then, he has been active in various legal professions such as university professor, judge, and legal consultant in different countries.

This book, rather than being close to different sections and customary divisions, focuses on educational and technical aspects of advocacy and introduces the audience, especially lawyers, to two different perspectives of lawyers and judges. They understand this difference in perspective as arising from their duties in the face of litigation, in order to bring them closer to the implementation of justice.

In this book, we read that defense strategy is the essence of advocacy and a lawyer has various responsibilities to focus on the art of defense in a lawsuit; because this aspect of the legal profession requires specific and extensive skills and techniques among the various tasks that a lawyer performs, and creates the initial impression of the word “lawyer” in the mind.

The author of the book begins in the introductory section with the question “Should we accept a dispute or not?” and guides the reader step by step through all stages of the dispute until the final arguments and leaving the court.

This book addresses the following questions: What is the responsibility of a lawyer when they believe their client has no rights? Is the burden of proof the same for civil and criminal cases, and if not, what is the difference? Do these standards vary in different legal systems or are they universally accepted? How far can a lawyer rely on the famous defense of “denial is sufficient denial” and avoid presenting evidence? What requires evidence and what does not? How should an argument or defense be justified? What is the difference between reasoning, evidence, and proof? What are the elements of a valid argument? How can we distinguish between valid and invalid arguments? How are the degrees of proof evaluated in relation to each other? What strategy should a lawyer adopt in defending a case, taking into account its specific circumstances? What is the role of procedural law and substantive law in this context? How should a legal document be drafted? What are the rules governing paragraphing and how should a legal document be divided
