In these days, when the words refugee, asylum seeker, and sometimes homeless have become familiar names in the headlines of all media around the world, a brief introduction to the book “Refugee Rights” can indicate the importance of awareness of the fundamental and human rights of every refugee.

The book “Asylum Law”, written in Farsi by Dr. Ebrahim Musazadeh, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Tehran, along with Rozita Kheiriz, a Master’s student in International Law at Shahid Beheshti University, aims to explain and analyze the legal aspects of the “Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees” and related documents and sources, which have formed the basis of refugee law.

The authors of this book have addressed the general introduction of refugees and its definition in international communities in the first chapter, and we witness a comprehensive explanation of the definitions related to asylum based on the Convention on the Rights of Refugees. Additionally, in this chapter, we will also reach the concept and foundations related to these definitions by defining their boundaries.

The authors have also addressed the sources of refugee law and its historical and ethical foundations in order to introduce as many legal definitions as possible.

This book, in its second chapter, examines the topic of Islam and refuge, and discusses the definitions of refugee rights in Islam. The authors have touched on historical aspects and refer to the content of the discussion based on what has happened.

The available book, which has been written and compiled in three chapters, concludes with the final chapter titled “The Key to the Book” for the Shah. The authors have concluded this chapter with the main content of asylum rights in the modern system. In this chapter, they first refer to the fundamental and formal principles governing these rights, including being declarative, protective, prohibiting refoulement, and preserving family unity.

According to the authors’ belief, one of the most important issues mentioned in this book is the subject of international treaties and the convention related to the status of refugees.

It is worth mentioning that the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees was adopted in a special session of the United Nations on July 28, 1951 and came into force on April 22, 1954. Initially, this convention was limited to European refugees after World War II, but with the adoption of the 1967 Protocol, geographical and time restrictions were lifted and the scope of the convention expanded. Denmark was the first country to ratify this treaty on December 4, 1952.
