Fereydoun Vahman, an Iranian scholar and religious expert, is also a retired professor of linguistics specializing in ancient Iranian languages and religions at the University of Copenhagen. He has written and translated numerous books in these fields. His book “One Hundred and Sixty Years of Struggle with the Baha’i Faith” is one of his works that discusses the situation and challenges of Baha’is in Iran.

One hundred and sixty years of struggle against the Baha’i religion, which includes two books that respectively address the issues and events before and after the revolution and the actions of governments and religious scholars in these two stages. The chapters of the first book are titled: “The Mystery of Baha’ism”, “Reasons for Opposition to the Baha’i Religion”, “Struggle against the Baha’is during the Qajar Period”, “Baha’is during the Reign of Reza Shah Pahlavi”, “Persecution of Baha’is during the Last Days of the Shah Regime”, “Baha’is as the First Victims of Oppression in the Islamic Republic”, “Approval of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic and Denial of All Human and Citizenship Rights to Baha’is”, “Arrest, Torture, and Execution of Members of Baha’i Organizations and Prominent Baha’is”, “Destruction of Baha’i Religious and Historical Sites

He begins the introduction of his book as follows: “This book is a corner of our country’s burnt and damaged history. It is a history that most of the people of Iran have either heard of or witnessed a part of it, but have never wanted to familiarize themselves with it due to unbelievable avoidance and escape…”

It is necessary to understand the situation and conditions of the Baha’i community in Iran, and the first half of this book introduces the reader to the events and conditions of the Baha’is in the country from the early days. In addition to the author’s perspectives and reports, the opinions of scholars, knowledgeable individuals, and even clergy of that time and the present time are also discussed. In the first book, the author takes you step by step from the early days of the Babi movement during the Qajar era (encounters, events, and incidents of that time), and you will also become familiar with Reza Shah’s encounter with the Baha’i faith. After that, you will see how Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi confronts the unprecedented power of the clergy of that time and their treatment of Baha’i citizens. This book also discusses the efforts of the Baha’is to improve the conditions of their schools and the individuals who played a significant role during that

In the second book, which deals with the revolution and its aftermath, the reader will encounter new events, raids, restrictions, and strictness that have taken place from the approach to the revolution until now. They will also become familiar with many politicians and prominent figures who have faced the Baha’i community. In this part of the book, you will see how all the civil rights of Baha’is are officially and legally violated; you will see how Baha’is are prevented from getting married, unfairly put on trial, kidnapped, and even killed.

After the end of the middle chapters of the book, which include descriptions of events and conditions for the Baha’is in all the Islamic Republic governments, in the final chapter of the book, it can be seen that activists, intellectuals, and international authorities have not been indifferent to the events that have happened and are happening for the Baha’is in the Islamic Republic. They have addressed these issues and have sought justice for the Baha’i community in most of these events. Finally, at the end of the book, the author has provided documents and evidence, bibliography, and a list of names and declarations.
