Book Introduction: Hijab and Intellectuals

Nushin Ahmadi Khorasani is one of the pioneers of the women’s movement and one of the founding members of the One Million Signature Campaign for changing discriminatory laws in Iran. She is also a publisher and has published numerous books and publications.

The book “Hijab and Intellectuals” is only one of the dozens of books and articles written by Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani, which was published in the winter of 90. This book includes an introduction and five chapters titled “Unveiling the Unveiling of Hijab”, “Polarization in the Women’s Movement and the Struggle over Unveiling”, “Reviving Hijab in the Anti-Shah Movement”, “Islamic Hijab and the 57 Revolution”, and “A Look at Today’s Society’s Attitude towards Hijab”. In these chapters, the author discusses the historical background of the issue of women’s hijab in different periods of contemporary history. In this book, Ahmadi Khorasani critically examines two important historical events related to hijab in Iran – the decree of unveiling by Reza Shah in 1314 and the compulsory hijab after the 57 revolution – by presenting statistics and figures and referring to numerous

Iran is one of these few countries. Although it is not the only country in the world that has designated punishments for a specific type of clothing through laws and uses this as an excuse to interfere in the private lives of its citizens, it can be said that Iran is the only country that has imposed the “Islamic veil law” on all women of the country, regardless of their religion or beliefs, and has put their daily lives under its influence and control… It is true that the occurrence of the revolution in 1357 and the approval of the mandatory veil law relieved the worries and fears of many of our

The book “Intellectuals and the Veil” is one of the most prominent and detailed sources on the history of the women’s movement in Iran and issues related to women, which has been written in recent decades both inside and outside the country. Reading this book is recommended, especially in light of the current controversy surrounding mandatory hijab in Iran due to the actions of street girls during the Revolution. It is recommended for both the younger generation who may not have much knowledge of contemporary Iranian history, and for others who are seeking a better and deeper understanding of the developments during this period.
